Haute Cakes Caffe - Newport Beach, CA

The other day after Sister K and I finished kayaking around Newport Dunes, we were really hungry as if were pretty late in the morning. We decided to get some brunch at Haute Cakes Caffe. This place is a little hard to find as it is partially hidden in a quiet strip mall. I've been here once before but the last time I was here was during the main breakfast hours and the line was just too long for me to hang around. This time around, because it was already so late in the afternoon, we managed to escape the long lines and even found a nice shady table outside. Score!

It isn't very big inside but there is an area to the right of the menu with inside seating. Most people prefer to sit outside when the weather is nice because it is Newport Beach after all.

These black and white prints were hung all around the restaurant.

This place actually offers healthy salads and sandwiches should you not be in the mood for breakfast food.

"Life will always give you waves...learn to surf!"

They even have vegan and gluten free desserts depending on when you come in. The carrot cake on the lower right-hand side looked so tempting. I almost got a slice. Maybe next time.

There are only a couple of umbrellas outside so if you manage to get a shady table, it is definitely your lucky day.

Sister K ordered a large coffee drink...

...I'm not sure what it was though. Lots of foam!

Pesto Eggs - Sister K ordered this dish and the pesto smelled so fresh. Also included is grilled cherry tomatoes, toasted sliced baguette and sauteed spinach.

Griddle Special - Oatmeal Blueberry Haute Cakes - this was good considering it was trying to be somewhat healthy. Made with oat flour, whole rolled oats and fresh blueberries.

Side of fruit

I've driven past many times on my way to Kean's. Guess I'll need to stop for breakfast. I love pancakes!
