2011 SoCal Half Marathon - Race Review

Date: January 8, 2011
Location: Irvine, CA
Start: 8:00am
Finish: 1:50:16

Pre-race commmentary: I signed up for this race mainly because it is close to where I live and I've never ran it before. Gotta do it at least once!

Post-race commentary: First race of 2011 is done. Nothing exciting to report. No PR. To be expected since I haven't really ran that much lately due to the holidays. The course was flat. This is a large student involved race. Lots of SRLA (Students Run Los Angeles) runners and students manning the water stations. It is a good idea to move closer to the front if you do not like dodging people. Nice weather was had on 1/8. I am one of those people who is always cold so I wore a long sleeve shirt that was on the thicker side. That proved to be a bit too much as I was getting pretty warm towards the end but glad I had it after I cooled down because it was pretty chilly out there when you are not running. Really good post race goodies. I think they had parents bake or something for this event because it was like a big bake sale. There were orange slices/bananas, muffins, cupcakes, cakes, brownies, bagels, rice cakes, Hansen's soda and so much cookies. Oh the cookies!! I don't have one single photo of the race scene as I had not carried my camera with me. I really liked this course and loved that it was a local race. I am planning on running this again next year. And now, I really need to get myself back on the training schedule. I felt out-of-shape running this race. I was running sporadic paces the entire time. Anywhere from 7:30s to 9:30s, thus averaging out 8:25s. I want to be better prepared for Surf City and perhaps get a new PR.

All the baked goods you can carry home.

I saw all the Gus and mile markers on the bike path Sat afternoon and instantly regretted not running. (Saving for the wedding is really cramping my race schedule)

Glad you had a good time! Got any of those cookies left? ;)

Three things:

- OMG, muffins!
- Ha ha... not round

Sigh. It was on my calendar. I've run this one before. Yes - the post race goodies were good then too! If you're looking for another good local HM, check out the PCRF Cinco de Mayo half.
